[link removed]

CAN webinar banner 8.21.20.png
Our nation is in need of repentance, and luckily we have a God who
loves to hear us and forgive sins. Please join Rep. Tim Miller
(R-Prinsburg) and Rep. Julie Sandstede (D-Hibbing) on August 27 at 10
AM to discuss the upcoming National Day of Repentance (September 27)
and plans for pastors and legislators to participate. Click here to
register.

Did you catch that? A Democrat and a Republican are coming together
during election season to pray with us for God's mercy over the sin of
abortion. That's a big deal. We hope that this event can transcend
mere political affiliation and bring people of all stripes together
for prayer and supplication to God.

Why a Day of Repentance? Two simple reasons: our sin, and God's
promises. During this time of testing in our nation, we need to
approach the throne of grace. And when we approach God in repentance,
He hears and forgives. We take our inspiration from 2 Chronicles 7:14:
"For if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves
and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will
hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their
land."

Please join us on August 27th to learn how your church or ministry can
get involved. Attendance is capped at 100, so make sure to register
today.

The Nuclear Family is Worth Defending

Screenshot_2020-08-19+Family+Concept+-+Paper+Cut+Out+Against

Marriage rates in the United States recently reached an all-time
low. On top of that, it is currently estimated that only half of
America's children are raised by married parents. An
increasing number of people are beginning to ask, "Are we seeing
the death of the nuclear family?" What is particularly striking
is that many of the people asking this question do not see the death
of the family as a bad thing. As lockdowns were put in place this
spring due to
COVID-19, several voices suggested that this ought
to be the end of traditional family structures. Even well before
COVID-19,the nuclear family was being challenged
as sexist, oppressive, and even racist.

These critiques generally assume that the nuclear family is an
invented concept. However, at the core of the nuclear family is
marriage, which does not have a human inventor. Rather, it was created
and ordained by God in the beginning. Because marriage is part of
God's good design, the benefits of stable, two-parent families
are not a surprise, nor is it surprising that there are serious,
tragic effects when God's design is ignored. These effects do
not come about because the nuclear family is an oppressive construct,
but because the nuclear family is good. [Read the whole piece at

Two More Minnesota Cities Adopt Unconstitutional Counseling Bans

Screenshot_2020-08-19+person,+holding,+lgbt+flag,+raising,+b

Two more Minnesota cities have adopted counseling bans that intrude on
counselor-client relationships by allowing the city council to dictate
what kind of help young people struggling with gender dysphoria or
unwanted same-sex attraction may seek out. Winona and West Saint
Paul's bans, both of which passed on Monday night, bring the
total number of Minnesota cities that have adopted these counseling
bans up to six.

These bans make it punishable for a licensed counselor or therapist to
discuss a full range of options with their clients. Counseling bans
are especially concerning when it comes to teens struggling with
gender dysphoria. Even though the vast majority of young
people struggling with gender dysphoria and do not
"transition," but instead become comfortable with their
biological sex as they get older, these bans would usher young people
into social transition and medical "treatments" that carry
life-long effects and do not improve mental health outcomes. City
officials do not have the right to decide that a young person
struggling with gender dysphoria cannot receive help in the form of
watchful waiting and counseling instead of being rushed into a
"transition" that will affect them for the rest of their
lives, nor do they have the right to limit the free speech of
counselors in this way.

Counseling bans rob young people of options and inappropriately
intrude on client-counselor relationships and free speech. It is not
the role of city officials to decide what a licensed counselor may say
to their client or to determine what options a young person may
pursue. [Share this piece at The Family Beacon]
