LA TIMES: 'Like Armageddon': Rotting food, dead animals and chaos at postal facilities amid cutbacks

John --

The fight to save our postal service isn't over. Not by a long shot.

Despite Trump's meaningless tweets and the Postmaster General's vague promises to halt some of his destructive changes to USPS, we are not in the clear. Our post offices are already feeling the strain of decreased funding. Mail sorting machines have already been padlocked. Packages are already stacking up.

Imagine what that might look like when voters start to send in their ballots. We simply cannot allow Trump and his friends to cheat their way to a win in November by preventing people from voting.

The only way we can do that is with congressional action. And right now, the House is considering a critical bill to protect USPS from Trump's interference.

John, if you have the time, could you sign your name to make sure millions of Americans have access to fair mail-in voting this election?

I need you in this fight with me. Together, we can ensure that hard-working Americans do not lose access to this essential national institution.

Thank you,

Christy

John --

It is impossible to overstate the importance of the United States Postal Service.

Millions of Americans rely on USPS for essential deliveries like life-saving medications, paychecks, and so much more. And now, as we are facing the worst pandemic in over a century, the USPS will be more crucial than ever in ensuring our free and fair election.

This is what makes Donald Trump and his corrupt Republican cronies' efforts to drain the USPS of funding and resources all the more despicable. And their promise today to do better is like everything else they do -- empty words we cannot trust.

They have shown that they care more about themselves and holding on to power than the lives and futures of regular Americans. They don't care about the mother of three facing eviction who is waiting desperately on a check in the mail or the elderly neighbor having to ration insulin until the next shipment comes.

John, we cannot sit by and let them rob another cornerstone of our democracy. We need to protect our postal system.

Sign here to demand Congress stand up to Donald Trump by taking immediate measures to protect the USPS and secure our elections.

This is personal to me. After serving in World War II, my grandfather served for many years as a postal worker.

From a young age, I knew that the postal service was more than just the place that brings you your mail. It was and is a cornerstone of America -- a presence that was always there, as the saying goes: in the snow, rain, heat, or gloom of night.

We cannot afford to lose this critical institution. People's lives and our democracy depend on it.

We need to reject the efforts of Republican billionaires and campaign donors to bankrupt this essential service and steal the election. Let's make it clear that we will not stand by while they mess with our elections, safety, and democracy.

Nancy Pelosi is calling the House back to vote on legislation to save the USPS because this is so urgent. Please join me and keep the pressure up.
