John,

This wasn’t a political issue, but Tom McClintock and other Republicans in Congress are now treating the USPS and Americans’ mail as a political game.

You read that right, our mail . And to boot, the USPS will potentially face bankruptcy this fall if they don’t get the funding they need.

That thought alone should sound an alarm for a representative whose chief legislative accomplishment is renaming post offices. But it’s deadly serious in the middle of a pandemic -- especially in a district where many voters are over age 55 and where 78% of voters ALREADY cast their ballots via mail.

Even Tom McClintock votes by mail. Just not in CA-04 -- he votes in CA-07.

During this pandemic, the Postal Service has been our lifeline. It's the only way many seniors and veterans receive their medicine. It's the only way some small businesses can reach customers. It's the only way some families can get essentials while social distancing. And with the November elections around the corner, voting by mail is the best way for our district to vote safely and securely.

Postal workers and anyone who relies on the mail need our help, John. Can you add your name to our petition to protect the USPS?

McClintock is playing a dangerous game by opposing the Postal Service.

He’s messing with families and businesses. He’s putting immunocompromised people at risk of having to go into public to shop because of delayed delivery times. He’s forcing voters (including the 80% of Republicans in our district who regularly vote by mail) to make long drives to polling stations far away from their homes.

He’s also jeopardizing the jobs of one of our nation’s largest employers of veterans.

The U.S. Constitution empowered Congress to create the postal service because our founders understood that some things needed to be above partisan politics. Democrats and Republicans rely on the US Postal Service -- never more so than during the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of abandoning the USPS, we must continue to fund and strengthen this vital American institution.

Our mail should never be a political bargaining chip. Join me in calling for protections for the USPS and its workers by adding your name to our petition >>
