John, It was just revealed that the U.S. Postal Service is moving forward with a plan to limit mail-in voting by only sending ballots to voters who are registered on a list approved by the federal government. This is an unprecedented assault for free and fair elections. This rule would effectively give the Trump admin control over who receives ballots and who doesn’t. We do not have to imagine how Trump uses this power. Live in a heavily Democratic area? No ballot. Have a name that sounds Black or Hispanic? No ballot. They are not hiding what this is. It is a purge designed to look like election administration. And that last part is particularly important. If you’ve been following our work, you know that in the Constitution, states have the responsibility for how elections are administered, not the federal government. But legal challenges to this rule will likely make their way up to the Supreme Court. And that’s where it gets scary—we have seen how this court has ruled lately. They have exposed themselves as complete and total puppets for Trump and MAGA extremists, willing to reverse nearly a half-century of legal precedent to tilt elections in their favor.
