Garbarino Weekly Newsletter from the Office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino If you were forwarded this email, click here to subscribe An update from the office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino SPOTLIGHT Chairing the Homeland Security Committee's DHS Budget Hearing This week, Andrew chaired a Homeland Security Committee hearing examining the Department of Homeland Security's Fiscal Year 2027 budget request and welcomed Secretary Markwayne Mullin for his first appearance before the House since being confirmed. As Chairman, Andrew emphasized the importance of ensuring DHS has the resources, personnel, and authorities needed to carry out its mission of protecting the American people and safeguarding the homeland. With the nation preparing to commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11th, host the FIFA World Cup, and celebrate America's 250th birthday, Members discussed cybersecurity, border security, counter-drone authorities, TSA modernization, and efforts to strengthen homeland security against evolving threats. "DHS has a no-fail mission, and Congress has a responsibility to ensure the Department has the support and resources necessary to keep Americans safe," Andrew said. Andrew looks forward to continuing to work with Secretary Mullin and DHS leadership to strengthen national security and support the men and women charged with protecting our homeland. View Here ANDREW IN THE NEWS Garbarino, Cohen Introduce Resolution Recognizing June 7th as Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day This week, Congressman Andrew R. Garbarino (NY-02) and Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Co-Chairs of the Congressional Tourette Syndrome Caucus, introduced a bipartisan resolution recognizing June 7, 2026, as Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day. The bill expresses support for individuals and families affected by Tourette Syndrome and other Tic Disorders. Joining Garbarino and Cohen as original cosponsors are Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Sarah McBride (DE-At Large), Debbie Dingell (MI-06), and Ted Lieu (CA-36). "Millions of Americans live with Tourette Syndrome and other Tic Disorders, yet these conditions are too often misdiagnosed and misunderstood," said Congressman Garbarino. "Recognizing Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day is an opportunity to promote understanding and awareness for those affected. I am proud to work alongside Congressman Cohen and our bipartisan colleagues to raise awareness and help break the stigma surrounding Tourette Syndrome." Read More WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Supporting Efforts to Combat Human Trafficking This week, members of Andrew's team attended the Suffolk County Anti-Trafficking Initiative (SCATI) Task Force meeting to hear updates on local efforts to combat human trafficking. The meeting recognized law enforcement partners from the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office, FBI, Suffolk County Police Department, and U.S. Attorney's Office for their work protecting vulnerable individuals and bringing traffickers to justice.  Andrew remains grateful to the organizations and professionals working every day to prevent human trafficking and support survivors. Constituent Spotlight: Celebrating a Special Milestone Andrew was proud to recognize Long Island resident and World War II veteran Vincent Impallomeni on his 100th birthday and provide a Congressional Certificate commemorating this remarkable milestone. Mr. Impallomeni's century of service, dedication, and commitment to his family, community, and country is an inspiring example for future generations. Andrew extends his congratulations to Vincent on reaching this incredible milestone and thanks him for his service to our nation. Casework Highlight: Helping a Bayport Resident Resolve a Mail Issue A Long Island resident recently contacted Andrew's office after experiencing ongoing issues with a mail forwarding request that delayed the delivery of important correspondence. After hearing from the constituent, Andrew's team worked directly with the United States Postal Service to help resolve the issue and restore normal mail service much sooner than expected. The constituent expressed his appreciation for the assistance and was grateful to have the matter resolved after months of frustration. Helping constituents navigate federal agencies is one of the most important services our office provides. If you ever need assistance with a federal agency, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Military Service Academy Applications Are Now Open Students interested in attending a United States Service Academy can now apply for a congressional nomination through Andrew's office. Attending a service academy is both an honor and a commitment to serve our nation. Andrew encourages eligible students interested in military service and leadership opportunities to begin the application process early. The deadline to submit a complete nomination packet is September 28, 2026. Apply Here WHAT'S NEW IN CONGRESS Celebrating Italian-American Heritage This week, Andrew joined Ambassador Marco Peronaci and Congressman Mike Lawler at the Italian Embassy's Festa della Repubblica celebration. As Co-Chair of the Congressional Italian American Delegation, Andrew was proud to celebrate the strong friendship between the United States and Italy and recognize the contributions Italian Americans have made to communities across Long Island and the nation. The event highlighted the longstanding cultural, economic, and diplomatic ties that continue to strengthen the relationship between our two countries. Congressional Soccer Match This week, a member of Andrew's team helped the Congressional Soccer Team secure a win, scoring a goal during the match. Events like these provide a great opportunity for bipartisan and bicameral engagement, allowing Members and staff from across Capitol Hill to build relationships and strengthen the connections that help move issues forward.
