"We stayed up all night. One of many all-nighters that we would eventually pull over the last three and a half years. And early morning of January 28, a Saturday, we rushed into a federal court in Brooklyn, NY. As we were rushing to prepare our legal papers, people around the country were rushing to airports to say to the immigrants, tourists, and visitors trapped inside: We are here for you."

– Cecillia Wang, Deputy Legal Director, ACLU

ACLU Supporter, this story from Cecillia is one so many of us remember: Hours after the first Muslim ban went into effect, we and our partners filed a class-action lawsuit against it in Darweesh v. Trump. It was one of the first legal actions the ACLU took against the Trump administration.

We would later win that case, and it wouldn't be our last: We've now filed 400 legal actions against the Trump administration – a critical milestone you can read more about here. <[link removed]>

We said we would see Trump in court, and we have. 400 times. Because the America we fight for – where equal justice means for all of us, not just some of us – is worth it.

Since that early morning in the Brooklyn courthouse, we've challenged Trump's policy of separating families, protected abortion access in immigration detention, blocked a citizenship question on the census, fought for LGBTQ rights at our schools, military, and workplaces, defended the right to protest police brutality and demand racial justice – and that's only to name a few.

In our 100 years as an organization, we have challenged every single president – but there's no denying that Trump is one of the most lawless presidents of modern history.

After he was elected, we made a promise: If he or his administration attempted to implement the unconstitutional policies proposed on his campaign trail, he would face the full fighting power of the ACLU, our state affiliates, and our supporters like you. We made sure that happened.

Read more about the critical issues that have made up these 400 legal actions, <[link removed]> and know that we will continue for as long as necessary – even if that means we have to file 400 more.

It is unwavering activism like yours that has made this possible. Thank you for believing in a nation where "We the People" means all of us, and for being with us in the fight to achieve it.

Sincerely,

The ACLU Team
