Steve Simon Secretary of State

Dear Friend,

I recently appeared on "Meet the Press Daily" with NBC's Chuck Todd to talk about the slowdowns at the U.S. Postal Service, which some have alleged are sabotage intended to slow the delivery of mail-in ballots in November.

Here's part of what I said: "Whoever it is that may be trying to slow down postal service, they are not going to slow down democracy. Period. Americans will find a way. Minnesotans will find a way. We always do. And this stuff is just not going to work. We'll make sure it won't."

I meant every word.

The U.S. Postmaster General now claims that he's postponing the moves that have already delayed the mail. I'm skeptical that he can reverse the damage, But even if the mail slows down, and even if the slowdown is intentional and political, we can't surrender to the challenge.

Voting from home is safe, secure, convenient, and wildly popular. In the recent Minnesota primary, 60% of ballots were cast from home by mail. In a pandemic, voting from home is also a public service - because every person who votes from home is making the polling place a little bit safer for those who vote in-person on election day.

My advice to Minnesotans remains the same: Consider voting from home. Order your ballot early. Return your completed ballot early. And remember that you need not use the mail at all. You can hand-deliver your ballot - or have someone you know and trust deliver it for you.

We won't let anyone slow down democracy. If anything, we'll work even harder to make sure that every vote counts! I'll always stay focused on my mission to make voting easy for every eligible voter.
