John,

Right now, the U.S. Postal Service is being sabotaged by the Trump administration.

Not only is the USPS being denied critical funding, but President Trump’s hand-picked postmaster general, Louis DeJoy, is making drastic, destructive changes, including banning postal workers from overtime, laying off staff, removing hundreds of mail sorting machines from post offices, and removing public collection boxes from communities across the country.

Though DeJoy told Congress this Tuesday that he’ll postpone his policy changes until after the election after facing public backlash, we still don’t know why public mailboxes were removed from communities to begin with, and reports indicate that USPS headquarters is still telling post office managers to leave the decommissioned mail sorting machines unconnected.

We need to get to the bottom of this and save the Postal Service ASAP. If you agree, add your name alongside mine now. [[link removed]]

The Postal Service is a lifeline for seniors, veterans, and rural communities here in Southwest Washington, especially during this pandemic in which folks are relying on receiving things like life-saving medication through the mail.

It’s also a critical part of this November’s election, in which millions of Americans are planning to vote by mail in order to stay safe in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, President Trump has said nationwide vote-by-mail would be “catastrophic,” and admitted last week that he opposes funding the USPS because without the funding, “you can’t have universal mail-in voting.”

We cannot take this lightly. These attacks on the Postal Service are an attack on our democracy, and we’re running out of time to fight back.

It’s time for Trump’s Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to resign and for this administration to fully fund our Postal Service. If you agree, add your name alongside mine to build public pressure. [[link removed]]

Here in Washington state, we know that voting by mail is safe, secure, and accessible. In Congress, I will fight to protect and preserve the Postal Service so that we can ensure our votes are counted and our medications arrive.
