Fellow Conservative,

Good Saturday Morning!

Last week, Sen. Bernie Sanders unveiled a $16.3 TRILLION climate-change proposal (that’s “Trillion” with a “T”). For comparison, the current national debt sits at $22 Trillion (and it’s only growing, thanks to a bloated 2020 budget <[link removed]>).

Bernie hasn’t explained how he plans to fund this specific proposal, but earlier this year he released a plan to tax estates of millionaires and billionaires at a rate as high as 77%.

And he’s not the only liberal crying, “tax the rich.” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York wants to put a 70% tax on income over $10 million a year.

But is it even mathematically possible to tax the rich enough to fund the progressive agenda? Lucky for us, we know the answer.

Heritage scholar David Burton did the calculations and published this research <[link removed]>. In his own words: “Confiscating every dollar earned by every taxpayer with incomes of $200,000 or more (a very expansive definition of “the rich”) would only pay for about half of the progressive agenda.”

That’s a 100% tax! And it still comes up short by half!

Here’s what you need to know:

August Recess Recap
Sentinel activists have long sought to build personal relationships with their members of Congress, because they know that their phone calls, letters, and emails are more effective when there is a personal connection.

During the August recess, congressmen and senators are working back in their states and districts, and so across the country, Heritage Action Sentinels scheduled meetings to discuss conservative policies and ideas, such as:

- Reforming America’s asylum laws <[link removed]>
- Passing pro-life protections <[link removed]> for abortion survivors
- Moving the USCMA trade deal <[link removed]> through Congress

Check out these Sentinels hard at work holding their member of Congress accountable:
There is still one week left in the August recess and so there is still time to schedule a meeting.

If you can’t meet directly with your member of Congress, take a meeting with a member of their staff. Staffers can hold a lot of sway in the office and building a relationship with these gatekeepers can prove helpful.

Texas Sentinel Summit
To bring together Sentinel activists regionally, we are holding a series of summits and trainings titled “Action in America.” Thanks to all who joined us on August 17, in Austin, Texas.

The lineup of speakers consisted of experts from Heritage Action for America and the Heritage Foundation as well as special guests:

- Texas Congressman Chip Roy

At the day-long summit, we discussed everything from immigration and the budget to building local grassroots groups and holding effective events that grab your congressman’s attention.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), Former Acting Director of ICE Tom Homan discussed the path forward for border security and immigration reform.
Mollie Hemingway and Carrie Severino speak to Sentinels about the confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
> > > If you are interested in receiving grassroots training and attending an event like this, sign up for the Sentinel program <[link removed]> and attend our next summit in Atlanta, Georgia this November!
Thank you to everyone who came out to this great event. We hope to see many of you at the next one in Atlanta!
