New State Department report highlights systemic restrictions on travel to Tibet
[[link removed]]

The State Department’s new report on access to Tibet for Americans categorically
confirms that Chinese authorities have done nothing to improve the situation
over the last year. The report is the second the State Department has released
under the Reciprocal Access to Tibet Act, which requires the department to deny
entry to the US for the Chinese officials responsible for keeping Americans out
of Tibet.

Dalai Lama speaks on “Conflict, COVID and Compassion”
[[link removed]]

The Dalai Lama spoke with United States Institute of Peace associates last week
from his home in Dharamsala, India, giving them his insight on the world today:

“It seems to me that young people today are more broad-minded than before. When
I lived in Tibet, for example, I had only a limited view of the world. After
coming to India, I was able to meet other people much more easily. It seems that
young minds today are more open and that humanity is becoming more realistic —
in those terms things are getting better.”

chief has expressed the EU’s position on his succession, stating that it opposes
any interference in the process by the Chinese government.

“The selection of religious leaders should happen without any government
interference and in respect of religious norms,” Josep Borrell said July 16,
adding that, “In the framework of the EU-China Human Rights Dialogue, the
European External Action Service has repeatedly expressed the position that
China needed to respect the succession process of the Dalai Lama.”

Hollywood censorship of Tibet blasted in PEN America report
[[link removed]]

Hollywood studios that once spotlighted the Tibetan cause now censor their
movies to appease the Chinese government, PEN America says in a new report
raising alarms about China’s domination of the film industry. “The Chinese
Communist Party, in fact, holds major sway over whether a Hollywood movie will

CARES Act includes new charitable giving tax incentives

Though we know it is the dedication, compassion and heart-connection to Tibet
that motivates our community to donate to ICT’s work, we wanted to share this
provision from the CARES Act that incentivizes charitable giving during this
challenging time.

Section 2204 of the CARES Act provides for a special incentive for charitable
contributions: a universal tax deduction of up to $300 is provided for
charitable contributions on 2020 tax returns when the standard deduction is
taken. This provision reinstates the opportunity for gifts of all sizes to
qualify as tax deductible. While this above-the-line deduction doesn’t apply to
donors who itemize their deductions, an additional tax incentive that increases
the cap on charitable contributions from 60% of your AGI to 100% will benefit
itemizers, too.

Please consult your tax advisor regarding these new 2020 tax deduction
opportunities.
