‌John,

When I consider a presidential appointment, I ask myself two simple questions: Is this person qualified for the job, and will they carry out its responsibilities faithfully and with integrity?

In the case of Donald Trump's latest appointment, Bill Pulte, my answer to both questions is "no". There is no credible reason why Pulte should be anywhere near the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI).

He has absolutely no experience in intelligence. The DNI is responsible for ensuring that our nation is prepared to confront threats from abroad and coordinating the work of America's intelligence agencies. It is not an entry level job.

Pulte's record raises concerns that go well beyond his lack of qualifications. During his tenure at the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), he repeatedly used his office to attack Donald Trump's political opponents. He repeatedly bypassed his own agency's inspector general when making criminal referrals, ignored established ethics procedures, and fired several employees whose job it was to provide independent oversight.

Hiring a Trump attack dog with no intelligence experience, one who abused his office to carry out political attacks to lead our nation's intelligence agencies is just more proof that Trump doesn't care about Americans' safety.

I've been speaking out against this reckless decision everywhere I can. But the uncomfortable truth is that Donald Trump feels empowered to make appointments like this because the GOP has chosen time and again to act as rubber stamps rather than as a coequal branch of government charged with providing accountability.

That has to change.

I am working to elect Democrats up and down the ballot this November because we need to flip the House and Senate and restore some long-overdue accountability to this administration.

I hope you'll join me in this fight. Make a donation today and help me build the congressional majorities necessary to stop Donald Trump from continuing to hand critical positions to people who have neither the qualifications nor the integrity to serve >> [link removed]

Thank you,
