This month’s Commissioner’s Column is a statement from ACNC Commissioner Sue Woodward AM to a Senate Estimates hearing on 4 June 2026 at Parliament House in Canberra.

"As we near the end of the financial year, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) is as busy as ever, focused on supporting charities to operate with integrity and transparency so the public and funders can be confident when engaging with them."

Answering your questions

Q: How can we check if our charity is endorsed as a deductible gift recipient (DGR)?

You can check if your charity is DGR-endorsed by searching ABN Lookup using your charity’s ABN.

Not all charities are eligible to be endorsed as a DGR, and information about the different DGR categories and requirements is available on the ATO website.

If your charity is already registered with the ACNC and you’d like to apply for DGR endorsement, you need to apply directly to the ATO using the DGR application form.

View our factsheet on deductible gift recipients (DGR) and the ACNC, and visit the ATO website for more information about DGR eligibility.

Q: Do we have to report on key management personnel remuneration in the 2025 Annual Information Statement?

Our guidance outlines the obligations charities have for reporting the remuneration of their key management personnel.

What charities need to report depends on whether they are small, medium or large in the period covered by the 2025 AIS.

Charities must meet ongoing obligations to retain registration. You must notify us each time a Responsible Person (a committee or board member or trustee) commences or resigns from a position. Learn more.

Holding an annual general meeting is a good way to be accountable to your members. Read more about AGMs and view our free resources.
