Jack, we just wrapped up the first TV debate of the NY-12 race, and I think one thing became clear on that stage tonight: the stakes of this election are high.
It’s not enough to say we’ll stand up to Donald Trump. It’s not enough to say we’ll fight for the Democratic agenda.
We have to make sure we have the right tools to actually win those fights — and the right people fighting them, who will never be bought by special interests and who won’t be afraid to stand up to entrenched power. That’s why I’m in this.
As we enter the final stretch of this race, we’re also approaching my son’s first birthday this summer. I know one day he will ask me hard questions about our country.
I want to be able to tell him that we’ve gone through tough times, but that so many people who love our country stood up and fought for it. I want to tell him that I did every single thing I possibly could to help create a better future.
Whether we’re talking about putting safety guardrails around AI, making housing more affordable, holding our lawless President accountable, or protecting programs like Social Security and Medicare, it all comes down to one thing: making life better for the people of this country now, and for the next generation of Americans.
Through all the challenges we’re facing, I’m optimistic that our government really can do that — if we elect people who believe in it.
