Yesterday, the Department of Justice announced a formal Title VI investigation into Arizona State University ([link removed]) .

According to the DOJ, the investigation was prompted by “recent viral videos” showing university officials attempting to hide discriminatory practices from federal scrutiny.

Those videos came from Accuracy in Media.

For the past five months, Accuracy in Media has been exposing Arizona State University’s administrators for defying state and federal efforts to eliminate programs promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

One administrator told an Accuracy in Media investigator that ASU was “doing pretty much what we were doing before.” At the time, it would have been easy to dismiss the comment as one administrator speaking out of turn.

Then we released another investigation.

This time, Associate Dean Chandra Crudup admitted that ASU had “started changing language” while continuing the same work. She went on to describe what she called an “inclusion network” embedded throughout the university and explained how administrators were preparing for DEI restrictions by changing terminology rather than changing direction.

As our investigation continued, we uncovered administrator after administrator describing how DEI remained embedded throughout the university. Some explained that programs had simply been renamed. Others admitted the language had changed while the work continued. One employee even assured our investigator that DEI remained “actively” incorporated.

Perhaps the most revealing admission came when a recruitment specialist in ASU’s College for Teaching and Learning Innovation told our investigator that, despite recent legislation, DEI remained part of the curriculum because “it’s in our hearts.”

Over the course of seven investigations ([link removed]) , Accuracy in Media exposed administrators as they described changing language, renaming programs, or reorganizing offices while continuing many of the same activities behind the scenes.

The Department of Justice will now examine whether Arizona State University subjects students to unlawful discrimination through its DEI policies involving admissions, recruitment, scholarships, tutoring, and educational support programs.

This investigation is still in its early stages, but one thing is already clear: the concerns raised by Accuracy in Media were serious enough to attract the attention of federal investigators.
