Hi friend — this is Herly Rosemond, the DNC’s Civic Engagement and Voter Protection Director. I wanted to reach out today to introduce myself and give you an update on voting rights in this country.
Before I begin, please consider chipping in to the DNC to power our work across the country. Your support will fund our fight to protect voting rights, organize nationwide, and help Democrats win up and down the ballot this year and into the future.

I am the daughter of Haitian immigrants who never had the opportunity to vote in a democratic election in their home country. Determined that history would not repeat itself in America, they registered to vote after their naturalization ceremony and instilled in me the importance of exercising this fundamental right as Americans. That’s why I’ve spent the last 10 years working on elections up and down the ballot across the country, increasing access, curing ballots, and protecting people’s right to vote.
It’s my job at the DNC to lead my team in building and maintaining the systems that allow every eligible person to register, vote, and have their vote counted without unfair barriers, threats, or confusion. We also track new laws, policies, and rules to identify threats to voting rights, which is what I’d like to talk about today.
As you may well know, the Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais is already posing a major threat to voting rights this year as we head into midterm elections. Since this decision, we’ve seen states like Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida rush to redraw their maps to silence Black and Brown voters and effectively rig November’s elections in Republicans’ favor.
But here’s the truth: They wouldn’t be trying this hard to cheat if they weren’t scared. They know voters will send a message this Election Day, so the only thing they can think to do is dilute the opposition to their agenda as much as possible so they don’t have to hear our message.
It’s our job to fight like hell to make sure voters are able to make their voices heard this November. So here are just a few things we’re doing to fight back:
We reached out to over 140K voters in Louisiana ahead of the May 16 election with voter education information.
We sent over 62K texts to likely Democratic voters in Mississippi to ensure their voter registration is up to date.
We’ve helped the Tennessee Democratic Party raise money as they scale up their volunteer recruitment and plan their next legal steps.
When you give to the DNC, work like this is what you’re funding. Thousands of Democrats across the country have already chipped in to help us organize, provide voter education, and register voters in key battleground states to help flip Congress and send a major message to Trump this year. Will you join them in pitching in to the DNC today?
