The Convention made it clear: With Joe Biden and Kamala Harris at the top of a historic ticket, Democrats are united and ready to take on Donald Trump.

From day one, President Biden and Vice President Harris will work to clean up the dreadful mess Trump has made. They will tackle the pandemic and root out the corruption that Donald Trump has allowed to flourish. They will restore honesty, decency and integrity to the White House.

I'm especially energized by the opportunity we will have to pursue meaningful climate action under a Biden-Harris administration. With the fossil fuel industry's stooges out of the picture, we can take on the big carbon-burning polluters and reinstate environmental protections that Trump has dismantled.

Ambitious reforms are possible, but winning the White House isn't enough. To achieve meaningful progress, Democrats need a majority in the Senate. Even if we defeat Trump, if Mitch McConnell remains the majority leader, he will deploy every procedural trick he can muster to stall and obstruct. We saw him do this during the Obama years - remember Merrick Garland? - and we're in for more of the same if Mitch continues to control the agenda.
