John --
I appreciate you taking time from your morning to read this email. If your inbox looks anything like mine, it’s full of fundraising requests from candidates all over the country. I know how annoying it can be.
I don’t like having to ask you for a donation to our campaign, but this morning, I need to. Let me explain why:
As you may know, our August fundraising deadline is today. I’m proud to say, John, that I’ve spent the majority of my time this month talking to my constituents during our Congressional district work period. What I have not been doing is spending all of my time fundraising.
I’ll be upfront: The establishment really wishes I did my job the other way around. They want me to spend hours a day on the phone asking for money. But I know that Mainers didn’t elect me to do that. I promised to put them first -- not special interests, not my party, and not my next election.
However, the Washington GOP has already launched misleading attack ads against me, trying to label me as a “socialist”. They’re going continue to use this line of attack for the entire election, John. Why? Because they’re desperate to take this seat back.
It’s going to take a lot of money and resources to win in the next election, and I know I can’t do it without you. So I’m humbly asking you now: Will you help us raise another $1,700 before our deadline tonight by chipping in $3 or more? >>
I hope that I’m making you proud in Congress, John. I do not take this honor of a lifetime for granted.
Respectfully,
Jared
