Dear John,

Last week Liberty and campaigner Ed Bridges won the world’s first legal case against police use of facial recognition.

The Court of Appeal said South Wales Police’s use of the tech in public is unlawful because it violates our right to privacy and breaks data protection and equality laws.

It’s a tremendous victory, but now we need to go even further.
Join Liberty today, and let’s get the privacy-abusing, discriminatory tech off our streets for good.

BECOME A MEMBER

Liberty has been standing up to power since 1934. But we’re only as strong as our members.

From fighting against fascism, mass surveillance and racist immigration policies, to championing safe workplaces, equal marriage, and trans rights, Liberty members have challenged injustice and fought to make the UK a fairer place for everyone for almost a century.

They are at the cutting edge of human rights in the UK. And as our first president, EM Forster, said: it is “the fight that is never done”.

Police facial recognition that snatches everyone’s data without consent and misidentifies black people, meaning they are more likely to be stopped by police, makes a mockery of our rights.

After our court win, we have it on the ropes. Now it’s time for the final blow – but we need your help.

Join Liberty today and let’s change society for the better.

With best wishes
