Dear John,
This is an important day.
We are exactly 64% of the way through the year.
It is a reminder the UK is only 64% food self-sufficient. That means we can make nearly two thirds of our own food - the other third, we have to import. <[link removed]>

Without international trade, it is at this point in the year that we would run out of food. British farmers and importers work together to make sure we’re fed.
So the food standards of our trading partners matter. If we trade with nations like the USA, where food standards are much lower, this means unhealthy, unsafe food like chlorinated chicken will end up on our plates. And it means British farmers will be forced to lower their standards to compete. <[link removed]>
Write to your MP, and call on them to protect our food and farming standards. Together, we can strike a frictionless trade deal with Europe that ensures we always have access to healthy and affordable food.

We’ve left the EU. For decades, our membership guaranteed certain high standards, and leverage in negotiating the quality of the food we imported.
As of yet, we have no laws in the UK to stop the lowering of these crucial food standards.
This doesn’t just mean unsafe food on our plates from the USA. It means British farmers, who are committed to humane, green farming practices, will be undercut by cheaper, unsafe food. <[link removed]> We should make sure all the food we eat in the UK matches the high standards of British farmers.
Why should our farmers be punished for sticking to good farming practices?
Take action today. Write to your MP today, and tell them to protect our food standards - for British families and British farmers.

Today is also important for another reason.
Today is the last day of the final scheduled round of Europe-UK trade talks. Time is running out fast to get a comprehensive trade deal with Europe.
And it’s our food which is on the line. <[link removed]>
