Hello Friend,
Have you heard about what happened in Wake Forest, NC, two days ago?
A Wake Forest mom reported that her son came home from Heritage High School in Wake Forest and broke down in tears because of an assignment his English teacher gave him. The teacher thought it was somehow appropriate to distribute a "Diversity Inventory" that violated her students privacy by asking them to list not only their sexuality, gender, race, age, ability, religion, and socio-economic status, but those of their school, teachers, close friends, doctors, housemates, and neighbors.
How the teacher thought this was an appropriate lesson for an English class is mind-boggling. The assignment left the student in tears because of the discomfort and pressure of having to do it on the spot. When some of the kids were hesitant to do it, the teacher responded by telling them: âHey, itâs OK because I used to be a Catholic and now Iâm an atheist and Iâm bi-sexual.â
The mother was left appalled, stating, âItâs hard enough going to high school without having your teacher call you out and lump you into a category â and not a category like âdo you like football or baseball?â A category of, âwho do you want to have sex with?â Thatâs unacceptable.â
This is just another reminder of why the NC Values Coalition exists, and why we fight for parental and children's' privacy rights across the state. Whether it's our campaigns challenging the implementation of pornographic Planned Parenthood sex education curriculums, or whether we're asking you to contact the NCHSAA and reverse their new policy allowing boys who identify as girls to play on girls sports teams (and vice versa), the NC Values Coalition has been on the frontlines of defending your values.
Friend, today is the last day in a very important fundraising month. With students heading back to school this week, we are in need of donations that help make our many campaigns possible. Please, if you are able, would you support our work by making a <[link removed]>$100, $75, $50, or $25 <[link removed]>donation today? <[link removed]>
