John, it’s Deb Haaland and I am officially the Democratic nominee for Governor of New Mexico.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what this moment means — not just for me, but for our state.

Together, we have the chance to make history by electing the first Native American woman Governor in the country. But more than that, we have the chance to protect and build a New Mexico where working families can actually get ahead.

Because I know firsthand what’s at stake when leaders ignore people’s struggles. I know what it’s like to live paycheck to paycheck, to rely on food stamps and WIC, and to worry about whether your family can pay groceries and rent in the same month.

That’s why I’m so determined to fight for lower costs, build stronger schools to get kids reading earlier, expand and strengthen access to healthcare, and foster safer communities.

But this won’t be easy.

As you read this, Republicans are watching to see if we have what it takes to stop them from bringing Trump’s dangerous and extremist agenda to New Mexico. They’re prepared to spend millions to flip this seat.

We can’t let them win.
