John,
Polar bear cubs could legally be killed for oil. That’s Trump’s sick plan to make his upcoming auction of Alaska's Arctic Refuge more attractive to fossil fuel corporations.
In just a few days, oil companies will begin bidding for the right to drill in one of the last truly wild places on Earth — a fragile ecosystem where polar bears raise their young, walruses roam, and millions of migratory birds return each year.
But this auction has a weak point: money. Oil corporations can't drill without banks and insurers backing them. And some of the world’s biggest financial giants have already pledged they will not finance or insure Arctic Refuge drilling.
Now we need to make sure they hold the line before Trump and his fossil fuel cronies pressure them to cave behind closed doors.
There are only a few days before the auction begins. Let's make this as big as possible to protect the Arctic from Trump's planned destruction:
Sign now and demand all banks publicly reject Trump's Arctic Refuge drilling.
To sweeten the deal for oil corporations, Trump is pushing rules that would give companies five years of legal protection if protected wildlife is harmed or killed during drilling operations — ensuring nothing gets in their way.
This is what fossil fuel expansion looks like: sacrificing wildlife, ecosystems, and entire communities so the world's richest can squeeze out more profits.
And it’s not just wildlife at risk. The Arctic Refuge is the ancestral homeland of the Gwich’in people, who have defended this land for generations. For them, Arctic drilling threatens their culture, food systems, and way of life.
Five years ago, several major banks publicly promised not to bankroll Arctic Refuge drilling. But now, as Trump bulldozes protections, those commitments are beginning to crack.
Bank of America has already started weakening its restrictions on financing Arctic drilling, while other major banks are under enormous pressure to bend the knee to Trump's fossil fuel agenda. And if nobody is watching, more banks could quietly cave.
There are only days left before bidding begins. We need to move fast to make this auction a massive failure.
If enough of us speak out now, we can make Arctic drilling politically and financially toxic before the bidding even starts — and show banks and insurers that the world expects them to keep their word.
Tell Wells Fargo, Bank of America and all major banks: publicly commit to not bankroll Arctic Refuge drilling.
We’ve seen the power of our pressure before. When Trump pushed to open oceans to deep sea mining, our public outcry helped make the project politically toxic. Now let’s do it again:
