August update from Hon Amy Adams
Hi John
2020 has certainly been a very challenging year for us all as we
navigate the uncertainties of a global pandemic and the havoc it is
wreaking on personal freedoms, international economies and future
prospects.
Covid-19 resurgence
With new community cases of Covid-19 and heightened alert levels
around the country, I am aware that people are feeling renewed anxiety
about the future. While the Level 2 guidelines that are currently in
place in Selwyn are less prohibitive than the Level 3 restrictions in
place in the Auckland region, they nonetheless do have a considerable
impact on hospitality businesses; sporting and cultural events and
also on consumer confidence levels.
I am concerned that once again the Government's apparent
expectations around testing and the testing that was actually
occurring of frontline border and quarantine staff do not marry up. It
is easy for the Prime Minister and her Ministers to blame people for
refusing tests and blame the Ministry of Health for not rolling out
the testing quickly enough but in the end it is the responsibility of
the Government Ministers to ask the right questions and know exactly
what is going on. This Government does not appear to be able to hold
its own officials to account which is extremely worrying.

Valedictory Speech to Parliament
As you may know, retiring MPs are given the opportunity to give a
final or valedictory speech in the House prior to the adjournment of
Parliament. This is an opportunity to wrap up your time as an MP and
touch on some of your memories and final thoughts. For me, it was an
emotional part of saying goodbye as your MP. If you would like to see
me delivering my speech, you can watch it here.
I welcome your thoughts and feedback on all matters so be sure to
contact me at a[email protected]
or like my Facebook page www.facebook.com/MPAmyAdams

Kind regards,
