You may be pleased to know that I recently cosponsored several key pieces of legislation, including:

H.R. 9009, the Firearm Freedom Act: As a staunch defender of our Second Amendment freedoms, I’m proud to support this legislation to eliminate the 1986 Hughes Amendment, which banned the future manufacture, purchase, ownership, and transfer of new fully automatic firearms for law-abiding citizens. This effort is yet another way to both protect and restore our God-given right to keep and bear arms.
H.R. 8374, the Equal Treatment for Farmers Act: Agriculture is the backbone of Georgia’s Ninth District. Our farmers and producers, who work tirelessly to feed and fuel our nation, deserve to be treated fairly under the law. That’s why I’m proud to be an original cosponsor of the Equal Treatment for Farmers Act, which ensures USDA programs are based on merit — not arbitrary classifications like race or gender.
H.R. 8827, the American System for Sustainable Immigration and Mass Immigration Limitations Achieved Through Imposing Oversight Nationally (ASSIMILATION) Act: This America First immigration reform bill replaces the Hart-Celler Act of 1965 and scraps key provisions of the Immigration Act of 1990. Specifically, the ASSIMILATION Act establishes a statutory national-interest standard to weed out people who have no intention of assimilating. It also narrows the availability of permanent family-based immigration, eliminates the diversity visa lottery, and reforms employment-based immigration to prioritize American workers, not foreigners. Additionally, the bill tightens F-1 student work authorizations, requires E-Verify for new hires nationwide, raises naturalization standards, adds penalties for visa overstays, and tightens asylum screenings.

District Spotlight

Baldwin Public Works Department recently celebrated the full-time retirement of longtime public servant Grady “Junior” Robinson. Last month, friends and co-workers gathered in the Junior Robinson Public Works Department to honor Mr. Robinson’s 40 years of service to the Baldwin community. The building bearing his namesake is the city’s newest public works building, marking a physical reminder of Junior’s decades of hard work and dedication. Mr. Robinson’s legacy as a man of faith, knowledgeable mentor, and dutiful public servant will continue to live on even after his full-time retirement and beyond his return to part-time work in January.

Congratulations and best wishes, Junior! Thank you for your decades of committed service to Baldwin’s water and sewer system.

Week Ahead

House lawmakers are back in Washington to consider the following pieces of legislation:

H.R. 7726, the Stop Child Care Scams Act of 2026: This legislation requires the Department of Health and Human Services to withhold funds from states that repeatedly misuse child care dollars, increases state reporting requirements, codifies fraud standards, and imposes stricter penalties on both states and providers found to have misused funds under the Child Care and Development Block Grant program. Such abuse was uncovered throughout Minnesota — including its now-infamous “Quality Learing Center.”
H.R. 8872, the Preventing Waste, Fraud, and Abuse in TANF Act: This bill roots out the abuse of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds by adding safeguards and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are going toward the low-income families that the program is intended to serve.
H.R. 7892, the No Aid for Ghost Students Act: This legislation tackles fraud in student aid by requiring the Secretary of Education to use a detection system to review, identify, and investigate suspicious Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) applications before any aid is distributed. The bill also strengthens accountability by prioritizing audits of schools that recklessly distribute aid to unscreened or suspicious applicants.
