From community outreach trainings to door-knocking at USC and Los Angeles City College, to a joyful Coffee & Cultura DJ Set & Day Party at With Love Cafe in South LA — our members showed up. And so did our community.
Serena, one of our members who joined us door-knocking, said it best: "Community is very important for building a better future because it gives people like me the courage to build solutions that will benefit us now and future generations."
For Serena, that courage grew through every connection made — learning names, building trust, and inviting neighbors to be part of something bigger. That is the power of relational organizing in action. And it works.
Together, we achieved so much:
- ✊🏽 We welcomed Homies Unidos as a new affiliate — a grassroots powerhouse dedicated to healing, violence prevention, and immigrant empowerment across LA and Central America.

🫱🏼🫲🏾 We laid the foundation for a new community chapter in Orange County and a student-led chapter at Los Angeles City College.

🎨 We forged new bonds with local artists, creatives, and vendors who share our vision for justice.
This event proved what we’ve always believed: when we build spaces rooted in culture and belonging, people don’t just show up — they stay, they organize, and they lead.
Joy and culture are the front doors to political power. By leading with connection, we turn moments into movements. Integrating community outreach with cultural programming is the heart of UWD’s strategy to build a lasting base of immigrant youth power.
