John,
My mentor Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm always said “don’t go along just to get along.” She believed it was important for women and women of color to get involved in politics from the inside. Not to play by the rules, but to change them.
And when Shirley ran for president, that’s exactly what she did. She broke barriers for women in and outside of politics.
Last night, as the first Black and AAPI woman ever accepted our party’s Vice Presidential Nomination, I know Shirley was smiling down as she passed the baton on to Senator Kamala Harris.
Today, I want to zero-in on this tremendous moment in history to congratulate my good friend, Kamala.
John, will you join me in congratulating Kamala Harris on accepting the Vice Presidential Nomination by adding your name to our card for her? It’s going out first thing tomorrow morning, so don’t wait to sign it if you want to be included. [[link removed]]

Shirley ran so Kamala could win. And just as Shirley set the path for women to dream bigger than ever before, Kamala will continue it — bringing other women along as she does.
In solidarity,
Barbara Lee
