Dear LIRS Supporter,

By the time Tamara was 16 years old, she had experienced horrific
violence that no child should ever have to face. Everywhere she went,
she was in danger of local gangs. And eventually, they threatened to
kill her.

Her only chance at survival was to leave Haiti. She risked her life
and reached the U.S. by a small boat-but upon arrival, she was
detained and told she had 30 days to get back to Haiti.

Her hopes for safety and freedom began to crumble. Thankfully, people
like you stepped in and supported LIRS.

I WILL HELP

With your gift today, you'll support our critical life-changing
services, including our Respite program, which provides released
detainees safe and secure housing, basic necessities, transportation
and travel, and connections to care providers for legal and other
essential services.

While in detention, Tamara was contacted by one of our LIRS
affiliates. She was given money for her commissary account, along with
a phone card to call her family in Haiti and tell them she was alive.

Our affiliates also provided pro bono legal services that helped her
be granted asylum. Today, two years later, she has a job, an
apartment, and the safety and freedom she dreamed of!

GIVE NOW

Release from detention is the end of one journey, but the beginning of
another. For newcomers who are alone and need shelter, travel, or
money for food, you can help provide a critical lifeline to a future
filled with hope, safety, and freedom.

Today, you can make a tremendous difference in the lives of men,
women, and children who are fleeing unimaginable circumstances,
seeking a chance at a better life. So please, if you can, give
generously and help those who need it the most.
