SUBJECT: Trainings on police in schools and the new Title IX this week. All on zoom, as per usual.
Hey John,
Well, we're at the part of 2020 when a new school year begins, and all the chaos of this year comes together in one giant cluster f... -- err, um, -- let's go with "dumpster fire."
Our youth activists have been protesting police violence, confronting an emboldened state, fretting the loss of essential Title IX protections, and more, all while a once-a-century pandemic ravages the globe. It's all coming together as students head back to school this month, and it can be overwhelming. So we're going to narrow our focus this week, and zero in on two trainings we feel are particularly helpful right now. Please join us (and invite your friends!) on Zoom this Wednesday and Thursday for the following:
Getting Police Out of Schools
All summer, brave young activists have been rising up in every city and community to fight white supremacy, and call for the defunding of police in order to protect Black lives. And yet, as these very same young folks return to school (far too many in-person), they are confronting the dangers of not only an invisible virus, but a very visible police presence.
We know that cops in schools are more likely to target Black young people and push them into a school-to-prison pipeline. Plus, schools are spending precious resources contracting with local police departments for these dangerous officers. So we're proudly supporting organizing efforts to defund police in schools, and reinvest in sexual and reproductive healthcare and education.
Register here to attend our training this Thursday at 6pm EST: How To Get Police Out of Schools with Samantha Daley and Keno Walker of Power U.
Spreading The Word
While anyone can attend our trainings, we focus on young people ages 14-24, so we need your support in getting the word out! Please use the following shortcuts to share the registration links with other activists in your communities as we want as many people to receive these free training as possible!
Thank you,
