Tonight, Joe Biden will accept the Democratic Party’s nomination for president of the United States.

Yet, for all the attention on the race to the White House, I remain focused on a small sliver of key state legislative races as the Campaigns Director for Forward Majority. These races will transform our democracy for not just the next 4 years, but for the next generation.

As the National Data Director for Barack Obama’s 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns, I’ve been crunching numbers for the past decade. And here’s the bottom line:

Winning a relatively small number of competitive pickup targets in Texas, Florida, and North Carolina—breaking up long-held GOP trifectas of power—would have a monumental impact for Democrats both locally and nationally.

Chip in now to help us invest in key state legislative races to recapture these critical state house chambers across the Sun Belt and secure fair maps through 2032 for millions of Americans.

As I wrote in USA Today earlier this week, “Power in America starts and ends in the states. Yet Democrats suffer under the delusion that they can solve all their problems by winning at the federal level...Securing a single lever of power in just three Republican-controlled states would have vast and lasting consequences. Rather than celebrate the big hauls congressional Democrats have raised, Democrats would be wise to invest aggressively in these states.”

Between Texas, Florida, and North Carolina, we’re talking about saving a projected 82 congressional districts from the GOP’s gerrymandering for the next decade. If we also retake a chamber of the Arizona State Legislature, we can roll back some of the most egregious voter suppression in these key battleground states representing a cumulative 100 electoral college votes.

The future of our democracy is at stake not just at the top of the ballot this November, but also down-ballot. We’re counting on your support to reclaim these powerful points of leverage.
