California’s surprise medical billing law (Assembly Bill 72) – which imposes price controls on the rates out-of-network physicians can charge at in-network facilities – is hurting patients with lower quality care, reduced access, and higher health care system costs, finds a new brief released today by the Center for Medical Economics and Innovation at the Pacific Research Institute.

Canadian Father Dies Due To Covid-19 Delays For Single-Payer Elective Surgeries

Walcroft’s surgery was one of the 100,000 procedures delayed or cancelled by Canadian health authorities in response to Covid-19. Some patients have died because of these delays. Christine Elliot, the Health Minister of Ontario, has admitted that three dozen people in her province have died because of cancelled heart surgeries.

This hit comes on top of teacher-union-backed anti-charter laws enacted last year, including one law that limits charter school expansion, which hurts minority children in poor areas.
