John,

Last night, I spoke at South Carolina Democratic Party’s Blue Palmetto Dinner.

I walked in energized and I walked out even more so.

The room was packed. Packed with fired-up Democrats who—by voting in record numbers—helped to defeat a cynical gerrymander plan and delivered a major blow to Donald Trump’s plans to try to rig the midterms.

Democrats from every corner of the state: organizers, candidates, volunteers, elected officials, public servants, people who have been doing this work quietly for years without much recognition and without much reward. People who live in a state that gets written off by national Democrats before campaign season even starts, and who keep showing up anyway.

That's the kind of commitment that builds something big.

I said something on stage l that I want to say to you directly: I believe we have to compete everywhere. Not just in the states we're supposed to win. Everywhere.

South Carolina has candidates up and down the ballot who are asking their neighbors for a chance to serve. And it has voters — millions of them — who deserve a Democratic Party that doesn't treat their state as a flyover.

I believe Democrats need to build the kind of map that doesn't depend on five states and zero margin for error. It means showing up in places where nobody expects us, and making the case that good government isn't a partisan idea. It's just the right thing to do.

It reminded me why this work matters. Building the infrastructure that makes nights like this possible — the organizing, the candidate recruitment, the early investment in states people have written off — that takes resources.

Will you make a contribution today to help us keep building?

What I saw in Columbia is what I want to see across this country. Democrats who are done waiting for permission to fight. And ready to win.

Let's keep going.
