Polling experts say Trump has just as good a shot at winning this year as he did in 2016.

Friend,

We are now 75 days from the most important and dangerous election that we’ve ever covered. And because the corporate media has failed so miserably covering Trump over the last 5 years, he has just as good a chance of winning as he did back in 2016.

Time and again, the corporate media has proven itself completely incapable of responding to an authoritarian demagogue like Trump.

Instead of focusing on how Trump’s policies are hurting people, they gather like moths to a flame over the latest outrageous Trump controversy. That allows Trump to control the narrative and distract from his failures with divisive culture wars.

The root of the problem is that the corporate media have a fundamental conflict of interest. They rely on high ratings and clicks to make money, and Trump delivers.

As CBS CEO Les Moonves admitted in 2016, "Trump might not be good for America but he’s damn good for business.” They don’t just tolerate Trump's demagoguery. They play it up, and then profit from it.

Even now, with hundreds of thousands of Americans dying and millions losing their livelihoods, they can’t stop chasing Trump’s latest shiny object, whether that’s his Kamala Harris birther lies or Goodyear Tire banning MAGA hats.

There’s too much at stake in this election to let the corporate media fail again like they did in 2016. As a nonprofit, progressive news source, Common Dreams doesn’t take any corporate advertising. We have no conflict of interest, and we refuse to be distracted by the Trump circus from the real pain Americans are suffering.

We’re aiming to raise $80,000 by September 1 to power our coverage of the 2020 election. Will you donate today?

Yes, I’ll donate to help Common Dreams meet our pre-election Summer Fundraising Campaign goal of $80,000 by September 1.
