John,

When you think about climate opportunities that can help in the fight against climate change, your mind might go to electric vehicles or wind turbines first. But there is another powerful tool to protect the planet that needs to be mentioned – farms.

This year, Congress is obligated to pass a massive, sweeping piece of legislation known as the Farm Bill.

Typically renewed once every five years, this multi-trillion-dollar bill dictates everything from how our food is grown to how our natural resources are managed. In fact, it is the single largest source of federal funding for conservation on private lands in the entire country.

As the Farm Bill progresses through Congress, take 5 minutes to familiarize yourself with what we’re fighting for by reading these articles and watching this video:

The pressures on our agricultural system

Climate-smart agriculture doesn't just protect our water and air — they keep farms profitable and resilient against droughts and floods.

That is why the upcoming Farm Bill is a critical milestone.

In the coming days and weeks, EDF will be calling on you to make your voice heard in the Senate. We need to ensure Congress passes a bipartisan bill that protects and fully funds long-term conservation investments, empowers farmers to adopt climate –smart agricultural practices and provides farmers with the technical assistance they need to thrive.

We wanted to make sure you were up to speed on what’s at stake before the debate heats up on Capitol Hill. Keep an eye on your inbox — we will be reaching out very soon with concrete ways you can take action.

Thank you for standing with us,
