Hey Johnxxxxxx

A lot happened this week. Here are the three stories we're watching most
closely.

1. A federal judge just halted Trump's $1.8 billion slush fund

A federal judge on Friday temporarily blocked the DOJ from moving forward with a
$1.8 billion fund Trump created — via a lawsuit he filed against his own
administration — to compensate people he claims were victims of "weaponization"
under Biden. Critics, including some congressional Republicans, say it's a
corrupt scheme to funnel taxpayer money to Trump's allies, including people who
tried to overturn the 2020 election and attacked the Capitol on January 6.

2. A federal judge let Trump's mail voting order stand — for now

On Thursday, a federal judge declined to block Trump's March 31 executive order
directing his administration to compile a list of confirmed U.S. citizens
eligible to vote in each state. The judge ruled the challenge premature — but
challengers warned that waiting could cause irreparable damage to the midterms,
where mail ballots go out in some states as early as September. GV Wire

3. Black lawmakers could lose their seats — and they're not going quietly

The Supreme Court's Callais ruling could cost up to 19 Black members of Congress
their seats, according to the Congressional Black Caucus — and they're
organizing to fight back. The law that helped a Black child from Baton Rouge
become a congressman is being dismantled in real time. The Washington Post
