I never thought things would end up like this.
When the Supreme Court first ruled that Alabama’s previous map likely violated the Voting Rights Amendment, they ordered Alabama to redraw its congressional maps to create another district.

If you told me that before I finished my first term in office that the Supreme Court would roll back the VRA and Alabama MAGA Republicans would move to kick me out of my seat, I wouldn’t have believed you. But unfortunately, I’m not surprised.
Like I said, things are changing fast. But let’s be crystal clear about why we’re here: We’re here because the far‑right knows they can’t win fair and square.
MAGA extremists are sowing confusion among voters. They are wasting taxpayer dollars. All in an effort to eliminate Black representation and RIG the playing field by redrawing the map. They are desperate to hand‑pick the Representative of this district instead of letting voters decide.
We’re fighting this in the courts, in the streets, and going door‑to‑door to organize our neighbors.
That’s why this moment matters so much. Because this isn’t just about lines on a map. It’s about whether our community gets a voice at all. But defending our community’s voice is going to take more resources than I have, Herbert.
