Behind the Scenes of the Limited-Edition SEA26 ORCA Card

There’s nothing Seattle-area transit riders love more than a special-edition ORCA card! To celebrate Seattle’s status as a host city in the 2026 World Cup, ORCA produced a limited-edition, promotional ORCA card which celebrates the excitement of the sport and the culture of the Pacific Northwest.

Led by King County Metro in partnership with 4Culture [ [link removed] ], this ORCA card was designed by local artist Alison Bremner [ [link removed] ]. 4Culture is King County’s cultural services agency, providing funding and support for art, heritage, historic preservation, public art, and science and technology to help connect people throughout the region with cultural experiences.

27,000 of these special-edition ORCA cards were produced ahead of the tournament. These cards will be available to transit riders throughout the games, primarily distributed by agencies during events and at customer service locations. Everett Transit, King County Metro, Kitsap Transit, Sound Transit, ORCA, City of Seattle, and the World Cup Local Organizing Committee all have these collectible cards, so keep an eye on their pages to see how you can get your hands on one!

ORCA is excited to play a part in getting these incredible cards into the hands of transit riders, and we can’t wait to see them in use throughout the games and beyond. Now, it’s almost time to kick off a summer of community, culture, and pure fun. Let’s gooooo!

Fekadu Tewolde recognized for outstanding service as the Facilities Employee of the Year!

Everywhere *Fekadu Tewolde* goes, she brings a genuine warmth, dedication and a level of service to her job that immediately lifts up her workplace. In her role as a King County Metro South Base Operations Facilities Specialist, she has become a trusted and deeply valued presence—so much so that her colleagues regularly say they never want her reassigned.

Praise like that speaks volumes about the consistent care and ownership she brings to her work as a custodian—and the reason she has been named the *Metro’s Facilities Employee of the Year*. She was honored last week with a ceremony attended by King County Executive Girmay Zahilay and leaders and colleagues from King County Metro.

Supporting an electric future: University Bridge Trolley Pole Replacement Project

King County Metro is preparing to replace the poles and the foundations that support the electric trolleys operating on the historic University Bridge.

The work is scheduled to begin this summer and is expected to be completed by the spring of 2027. Metro is coordinating closely with the Seattle Department of Transportation’s (SDOT) RapidRide J Line [ [link removed] ] and Washington State Department of Transportation’s (WSDOT) Revive I-5 Ship Canal Bridge [ [link removed] ] projects to minimize impacts during this project.

The 30 King County-owned poles on the bridge, and the foundations that support them, are reaching the end of their useful life. They are being replaced to improve lighting and support reliable ongoing trolley service. Once this project is complete, the new trolley infrastructure will allow Metro to continue providing reliable, emission-free transit service between Capitol Hill, Eastlake, and the University District. This work will also support the upgrade of the current Route 70 to the future RapidRide J Line.
