** California's pilot GND is burning out in real-time.
------------------------------------------------------------
Washington Times ([link removed]) (8/18/20) reports: "California’s electricity grid picked an inconvenient moment to stumble, at least for Democrats seeking to drum up support this week for Joseph R. Biden’s $2 trillion green-energy plan at the Democratic National Convention...California seeks to generate 60% of electricity via renewables by 2030, but Mr. Biden’s Green New Deal is even more aggressive, calling for a 100% carbon-free grid by 2035 'to meet the existential threat of climate change while creating millions of jobs with a choice to join a union.'..'Every year it’s a big issue,' said Kenny Stein, director of policy at the Institute for Energy Research. 'CAISO has been warning the state for about a decade now, saying, we’ve got more and more solar, that’s making it harder and harder for us to meet peak demand after the sun sets. You need to do something.' 'The state has not taken any action,
partly because it would be very expensive,' Mr. Stein said. 'They’ve got to have a bunch of battery power, or they’ve got pay someone to have a natural gas plant sitting idle.'"
** "These new standards for methane emissions are one piece of a big puzzle, and there is much more to do. To end poverty around the world and improve the global environment, we need to support American energy."

(8/20/20) reports: "When rolling blackouts hit heat-stricken California last weekend, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) angrily blasted the state's grid officials for failing to do their job. 'These blackouts, which occurred without prior warning or enough time for preparation, are unacceptable and unbefitting of the nation's largest and most innovative state,' Newsom wrote in a letter to the agencies that regulate the power sector. 'This cannot stand.' This week, California was hit again from the opposite end of the political spectrum in taunting tweets from President Trump in the middle of the Democratic National Convention. 'In California, Democrats have intentionally implemented rolling blackouts — forcing Americans in the dark,' Trump tweeted. 'Democrats are unable to keep up with energy demand.' But the blackouts were something else. 'Obviously, this was a wake-up call' revealing the grid's vulnerability, said Ralph Cavanagh, co-director of the Natural Resources Defense Council's climate and
clean energy program, a green energy advocate who has been immersed in the state's grid issues for two decades, in an interview."

(8/19/20) reports: "A Facebook post claims the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 was not caused by a virus but by the introduction of electricity. This is not true. The post also makes false claims relating to viruses and the response to Spanish flu. A Facebook post with over 320 shares as of August 19 features two images connected to the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic along with a lengthy caption: 'What 'they' refer to as Spanish Flu (1918) was not a 'flu' - it was the result of the introduction of electricity. When the body is exposed to a new form of radiation it causes illness which may produce 'flu like' symptoms.' This article will address some of the claims made in the text. Many regions affected by the Spanish flu pandemic had introduced electricity years before the pandemic. For example, some homes in New York City were powered by electricity as early as the 1880s, according to the Institute for Energy Research (** here ([link removed])

(8/18/20) reports: "'Our climate is in crisis. Oil prices have cratered, and major banks are pulling out of Arctic financing right and left,' Adam Kolton of Alaska Wilderness League told USA Today. 'And yet the Trump administration continues its race to liquidate our nation's last great wilderness, putting at risk the indigenous peoples and iconic wildlife that depend on it.' Dan Kish of the Institute for Energy Research sees things differently, calling the decision a “great move” that is long overdue. 'The Alaska pipeline has been operating now for more than 40 years,' he advises. 'So this will allow them to update the pipeline, invest in the pipeline, and refill the pipeline so that our West Coast --- which currently gets oil from places like Russia -- can rely on American oil again.' Although some people in the region are opposed to oil and gas efforts in ANWR, Kish says many others support it. As for when oil and gas efforts may begin in ANWR, Interior Secretary David Bernhardt told
The Wall Street Journal that auctions for leases could begin around the end of the year. But what about the claim no one is interested because of the drop in oil prices? 'People who suggest nobody will be interested, I think, is wishful thinking,' Kish responds."
