I want to talk to you about something that doesn’t get nearly enough attention — but affects just about every person and small business in Nebraska: Credit card swipe fees.
Every time you swipe your card at a local business, that business has to hand over a cut of the sale to companies like Visa and Mastercard.
In 2025 alone, American businesses paid $198 billion in swipe fees.
And let’s be clear: that money is not going to pay workers, to improve your community, or to build roads or schools. It’s flowing straight out of Main Street and into the pockets of big banks and credit card companies.
When I see a system like this, I call it what it is. A rip-off — a private tax on every small business and every family in this country.
There’s a bill in Congress right now — the Credit Card Competition Act — that would finally bring some competition into this system and lower these fees. It’s bipartisan. It’s common sense. I support it. And I’ll vote for it on Day One.

But the big banks and credit card companies are spending millions to kill it. They’ve got lobbyists crawling all over Washington trying to make sure nothing changes. And my opponent’s family made billions in the financial industry — the same industry cashing in on these fees.
So who do you think he’s going to side with?
I’ll stand with working people, small businesses, and Main Street every single time. But if we’re going to take on industries this powerful, we need a campaign strong enough to fight back.
