Throughout the rest of the year, CLASP is hosting a series of virtual conversations on healing-centered liberation policy, which advances a radical, imaginative approach to reparations that isn’t static and transactional. Healing-centered liberation policy considers a host of systematic policies that have economically persecuted and disenfranchised Black Americans, from the transatlantic slave trade to mass incarceration. Healing-centered liberation policy requires us to follow the lead of activists in communities who’ve been doing the work of organizing and building community-led infrastructure to dismantle the police state and create thriving Black and Brown communities.
In the past couple weeks, we have written new blogs and commentaries, hosted a conversation with young leaders, and scheduled two upcoming virtual engagements.

Upcoming Events:

On August 27th, 3:00-4:30 pm ET join us for Divest to Save Black Lives. Invest to Heal Communities: Centering Impacted Voices to Reimagine a New Vision of Justice. This conversation will feature directly impacted leaders who have been at the forefront in demanding greater investments in their communities. We’ll hear how these leaders are building a vision for community investment that doesn’t rely on a system of oppression.

New Blogs and Commentaries:

I Want to Know; Which Side is the Federal Government On? by Kisha Bird
Undoing Unjustice: Federal options to stop the harms of law and order policies by Sebastian Hickey
Racism in Public Benefits Programs: Where do we go from here? by Madison Allen
Previous Events:

On July 23rd, we hosted a virtual conversation titled “Protest, Movement Building, and Mental Health: A Conversation with Young Leaders.” Movements for racial, social, and economic justice are often led by young people who put their energy, creativity, and bodies on the line for change. How does witnessing injustice impact young people’s mental health? How do protest and movement building support healing? What more is needed to care for young people’s well-being in a time of uprisings for racial justice? This panel explored these questions and more with young movement leaders who are advancing justice and healing in their communities.
