One-hit blunder: America 250 musicians are dropping like flies

It looks like seven of the nine artists booked to perform at the Great
American State Fair on the National Mall have already dropped out.

A day after the lineup—which is part of the America 250 celebration—was
announced, several acts said that they were duped into performing and will no
longer attend after learning that the event is tied to President Donald Trump.

Country singer Martina McBride bowed out on Thursday night via a social media
post.

“I will not be performing at the Great American State Fair on June 25th,” she
wrote. “I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event
but that turned out to be misleading.”

Former Poison frontman Bret Michaels also backed out late on Thursday, citing
safety concerns.

“Unfortunately, what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has
evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of,”
Michaels wrote.

The backlash began immediately after the lineup was first announced on
Wednesday.

“It’s A No For Me,” singer Morris Day wrote on Instagram that same day, after
he and his funk band The Time were unveiled as part of the celebration.

Similarly, Milli Vanilli singer Jodie Rocco told The Associated Press that the
band will also not be performing.

“My sister and I were shocked to see our name, ‘Milli Vanilli’, as one of the
performers,” she said.

The Commodores also shared the news Thursday that they will no longer be
performing.

“Our music has always been our voice and we choose not to publicly affiliate
with any single political party,” they wrote on Facebook. “We support the
betterment of all Americans.”

C+C Music Factory also dropped out, with “Gonna Make You Sweat” lead rapper
Freedom Williams saying in a video that he had no idea that the event was tied
to Trump.

“I don’t fuck with Trump,” he said, adding that his agent only told him that
the performance was in Washington, D.C.

“He didn’t mention Trump,” he said. “I ain’t gonna be able to do that.”

Rapper Young MC also joined the exodus on Thursday.

“The artists were never told about any political involvement with the event,”
the “Bust A Move” singer said in a statement. “I hope to perform in D.C. in the
near future in an event that’s not so politically charged.”

The artists’ insistence that they didn’t know this event is tied to Trump is
plausible, given that many of them have been part of an “I love the ‘90s” tour
that performs at casinos and county fairs. The Great American State Fair
probably sounded like any other lame venue.

Ultimately, this event is even more pathetic, as Trump’s stink is so foul
that even has-beens are turning down money and exposure, refusing to perform
for the spectacle that Trump has been obsessed with putting on—and profiting
off of—for the country’s birthday.

But it’s not a surprise. Trump has always struggled to get popular artists to
perform for him, as many are Democrats who loathe Trump and everything he
stands for.

And it enrages Dear Leader, whose malignant narcissism makes him unable to
comprehend how people could dislike him. Just take a look at his meltdown when
Bruce Springsteen criticized his immigration goon squad.

At the end of the day, Americans really fucked up when they elected this
corrupt, evil wannabe dictator in 2024.

Aside from the economic pain he’s inflicted with his illegal tariffs and
boondoggle of a war in Iran, he’s now putting a gigantic damper on the
country’s 250th birthday—which feels more like a funeral.

Just imagine the lineup we could have gotten if a Democrat won the White House.
