And Jonas Hole isn't alone — even in his school. At least five other trans students have alleged discrimination due to gender, and one cisgender girl who wore a tuxedo in her senior class photo (an important reminder that transphobia affects all of us, not just trans folks).
Here's the good news from The Advocate's reporting: Despite the school district's leadership, community members — LGBTQ+ and allies alike — showed up at graduation to cheer Jonas on.
LGBTQ+ people do not only live in blue and purple states. We do not merely exist in urban centers. We are EVERYWHERE, and we deserve to be safe EVERYWHERE.
