Yesterday in the pouring rain, I stood with my Hanover County neighbors at a rally before the Board of Supervisors voted and fired up the crowd with our rally speech (link at the bottom). Hours of testimony later, we finally had victory when the Board of Supervisors finally rejected the data center proposal.
That’s what people power looks like.
Tech billionaires are looking at our Congressional District to be the next data center alley. They’re getting tax breaks to take our water, pollute our air, increase our energy prices, and take our jobs. That’s not a trade I’ll ever accept and clearly, Hanover County residents won’t either.
I’m running for Congress because decisions like this shouldn’t be left to rallies alone. We need federal leadership that puts a moratorium on data centers until we have real answers about water contamination, energy consumption, environmental justice, and impact on workers.
Yesterday was a win. But there will be another proposal next month, and the month after that until we change the rules.
Can you chip in $25 or whatever you can today to help us fight for the people and not the data center billionaires?
Sincerely,
Salaam
