When I first heard the news that Vice President Biden had selected my friend Kamala Harris as his running mate, I swear I could hear millions of women cheering across America!

And tonight we get to see her accept the Democratic Party's nomination for vice president of the United States.

I couldn't be more inspired that -- after a lifetime of public service and barrier-breaking campaigns for district attorney, attorney general, the Senate, and the presidency -- Kamala never stopped fighting for the people of our great nation.

She is a tireless and joyful warrior for choice, for women and their families, and for every single issue that touches women's lives.

I love to talk about Kamala and share her inspiring story. She's the daughter of immigrants from India and Jamaica. She's a big sister. She's a sorority sister. She's a stepmom. She's a role model for all of us.

From her earliest years in school and at Howard University, Kamala was committed to more than just the marching orders of the day for women, for Black women, and for South Asian women. She has been nothing short of a trailblazer.

Kamala was the first Black woman elected as San Francisco's district attorney, where she helped establish a safe house for victims of human trafficking.

She was also the first Black woman elected as California's attorney general, where she defended families against (and beat!) predatory big banks and for-profit education companies and where she eliminated California's backlog of untested rape kits.

Friend, I hope -- like me -- you've felt Kamala's incredible power and impact in the Senate since 2017. The disastrous Trump-Pence administration has met its match time and time again against Sen. Harris, and she's just getting started.
