We can’t let the Senate give Trump’s postmaster general a pass.

Dear Friend,

On Friday, Donald Trump’s mega-donor postmaster general, Louis DeJoy, will testify in front of the Senate.1

The outrage over Trump's purposeful mail slowdown has caused Congress to finally take action—the House is writing legislation to protect the US Postal Service from DeJoy's destructive policies, and the Senate has called DeJoy into a hearing.

Under intense pressure from people like you, DeJoy is trying to make it sound like he's changing course. But he hasn't agreed to put back one mailbox or sorting machine, or reinstate any of the hours it will take to get the post office running at full service again.2

If we're going to stop Mitch McConnell's Senate from giving DeJoy and Trump a free pass on killing the post office, we have to make our voices so loud, they can't be ignored. Demand Progress has already driven more than 250,000 emails to Congress demanding that our representatives protect the mail and the election. Will you donate to ramp up our campaign?

The reports keep getting worse.

DeJoy oversaw orders to remove 502 mail sorting machines—more than 1 in 10 in existence—which areresponsible for handling hundreds of millions of pieces of mail.3 Public mailboxes have been removed in communities in Oregon, California, Massachusetts, and other states.4

Prescription deliveries are being delayed by weeks. Decades-long veterans of the USPS are complaining they can't possibly finish their routes in the time allowed.5

And Trump flat-out told us: he's starving the US Postal Service to stop the ability for us to have mail-in voting.6

The good news is that the grassroots outcry Demand Progress has helped organize has put this issue front and center in the media. DeJoy is obviously feeling the pressure.7

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer met with DeJoy to discuss the new postmaster general's policies, but DeJoy refused to back down.7

On Friday, the Senate could hold DeJoy accountable for killing the US Postal Service—or, McConnell and other Trump allies could let DeJoy lie his way out. It is up to us to let Congress know we won't allow Trump to end one of our country's oldest democratic institutions.

Will you donate to help save the US Postal Service?

Thanks for standing with us.

Robert Cruickshank,
Demand Progress
