Budget 2026 highlights New Zealand First’s focus on stronger borders, backing our first responders, getting our young people into work, and supporting our seniors.
We’re a nationalist party and that means we want a stronger nation.
Stronger borders and backing our first responders
$70.7 million for border security - beefing up customs equipment to better combat organised crime and illicit drug activity
$18 million to combat migrant exploitation - more labour inspectors to respond to serious offending and more investigations and compliance needed
$50 million for frontline policing
$35 million for Road Ambulance Services to support ambulance professionals to do their job and boost frontline ambulance crews
Looking after our young and old
$34 million of funding for birthing units, maternity care and three-day postnatal stays
$69 million to double the number of Trades Academy places, providing free trades training for year 11 to 13 students
$87 million for 1,000 more Youth Guarantee places - we want every one of our young people to have the skills, education, and opportunity to get into work. This policy targets young people with no or low qualifications.
$36 million to modernise the SuperGold Card to become an official form of identification for seniors, with both physical and digital versions
Building our nation’s resilience
$150 million for additional strategic fuel reserves to firm up New Zealand’s fuel resilience
$1.2 billion to help businesses transition from gas - so that our supply is reserved for businesses that need it most
$1.075 billion for KiwiRail for their planned networks - rail is an economic enabler and our leader Rt Hon Winston Peters has consistently lead the charge on this
$209 million from a banking Levy to invest in our banking sector
