Wall Street Journal Spotlights WILL Victory Against Discriminatory USDA Programs

Last week, the Wall Street Journal Editorial Board spotlighted WILL’s major victory over the USDA's unconstitutional race- and sex-based preferences across three federal farming programs.

The piece details how our initial lawsuit, on behalf of Wisconsin dairy farmer Adam Faust, pushed the federal government to stop defending these illegal Biden-era policies, each of which discriminated against white farmers, and reach a settlement agreement.

WILL Backs New Labor Rule to Protect 300,000+ Wisconsin Contractors

Also last week, WILL submitted a formal comment letter to the Department of Labor, fighting to protect the economic freedom of over 300,000 independent contractors in Wisconsin.

The issue stems from a confusing, Biden-era 2024 rule that targeted independent contractors, working as freelancers, gig drivers, consultants, and tradespeople by trapping them in an unpredictable regulatory framework. It created a confusing, six-factor test with no clear guidelines, allowing the federal government to look at an independent contractor arrangement and decide, after the fact, that the worker was really an employee all along.

WILL's letter was submitted in support of a new, fairer rule that will let Wisconsin workers, not the federal government, choose their own career path.

WILL's “What America Means to Me” Student Video Contest in Full Swing

Following our recent launch of the “What America Means to Me” statewide student contest, WILL continues to look for inspiring video submissions from Wisconsin's next generation.

The contest is officially underway, inviting Wisconsin K-12 students to submit an original 30-60 second video reflecting on freedom, opportunity, and our nation’s founding principles. Winners will receive cash prizes of $2,026 for first place, $776 for second place, and $250 for third place. The first-place winner and his or her parents or guardians will receive complimentary tickets to WILL’s annual Celebration Dinner this fall, where the winner will be recognized.

WILL Supports Restoring Work Requirements in Public Housing

WILL also filed a public comment letter in support of a new Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) rule that was drafted with Wisconsin in mind.

The rule would let public housing agencies and landlords require able-bodied adults receiving housing assistance to work up to 40 hours per week and limit assistance to two years. This would cut federal red tape to mirror the proven success of Wisconsin's 2015 welfare reforms, where pairing work requirements with food stamps helped over 28,000 people find jobs.

Our comment urges HUD to finalize this rule, which will not only reward work but will open up housing space for the next family in need.
