This year our country has engaged in a national conversation about race, police brutality, and the oppressive systems on which our society was built. We have also seen historic protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement which have inspired so many to demand accountability and change.

This conversation has made one thing painfully clear to me: we need more Black leaders at all levels of our government.

We have so much work ahead of us to make sure we root out the racism at the heart of so many of our systems. But I am confident a good first step is to make sure we have Black voices leading the way.
