John,
I wanted to give you an update on the recent news surrounding the Trump administration’s efforts to sabotage the U.S. Postal Service.
After a nationwide crescendo of public pressure from people like you, Trump’s hand-picked postmaster general, Louis DeJoy, announced yesterday that he will postpone further Postal Service policy changes until after the November 3rd election.
This is a victory for all of you who raised your voice. It’s confirmation that your activism matters.
But it’s also just the beginning. DeJoy’s promises simply aren’t good enough.
The Postmaster General has now said that he won’t restore sorting machines and mailboxes that were already removed – that’s unacceptable. A promise, after weeks of sabotage, to not make things worse until after the election just isn’t going to cut it.
Here’s what Trump and DeJoy need to do:
We must ensure that the sorting machines and public mail collection boxes already removed from communities around the country are replaced immediately.
We also have to provide the Postal Service with the billions in funding it desperately needs to avoid collapse. That’s why House Democrats are going to pass a bill that would do just that.
Trump, DeJoy, and Republicans are hoping we’ll be satisfied with their small concessions, and stop making so much noise over this. But if we’re going to ensure that every American can get their medicine, carry on their businesses, and safely and effectively vote by mail in November’s election, we need to keep up the pressure.
Add your name to join me in demanding DeJoy fully reverse his harmful policy changes, and support Democrats’ bill to provide $25 billion in funding to save the USPS today.
Thanks for being so active on this critical issue. I’ll be in touch with more updates when I have them.
