John,

The derecho that tore through Iowa last week has been nothing short of devastating. Hundreds of thousands lost power for days, 14 million acres of crops were damaged, grain bins were thrown across fields, and many lost their homes. Over a week later, folks are still looking for safe and cool shelter, food, ice, water, and basic necessities.

The damage we're facing from this storm is shocking and anxiety-inducing -- but we're going to be okay.

I know this because after the floods Iowans experienced in 2019, our communities came together to support one another like you wouldn't believe.

I know this because my whole life I've been watching my grandma, my neighbors, and my friends show me what Iowa strong means. That strength comes from our capacity to care for each other, to stand together in the face of adversity, and practice compassion for people in need, especially the ones we don't even know.

In that spirit, I wanted to pass along some resources and ways to help folks who need our strength now as much as ever. Our team is also collecting food and hygiene donations at our parking lot rallies this week in Sibley and Sioux Center. We're trying to do our small part to make it a little easier for folks who are trying to get back on their feet.

Thank you for taking the time to hear from me. In tough times, it's good to know I can count on all of you to help our communities overcome any challenge.

Standing Tall For All,

J.D.
