Accuracy in Media has spent the last few years exposing what public universities do when lawmakers try to rein them in.


They don’t stop. They adapt by closing one office but opening another under a different name. They shift the same programming into academics or student life, and hope lawmakers and the public accept their cosmetic changes as compliance.

We’ve been exposing that unfolding all across Texas, and those investigations are creating consequences.


At the University of North Texas ([link removed]) , one administrator told our undercover investigator that DEI programming could continue because accreditation requirements gave them cover. Within days of that investigation becoming public, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton launched an investigation, and the administrator was gone.


At UT Arlington ([link removed]) , another administrator admitted, “The intention is still the same. The practice is still the same--it’s just called something different now.” She’s now also seeking employment.


Our investigations force the people in power to pay attention. They create public pressure, trigger scrutiny from state officials, and put universities on the defensive.


But now, there’s another way to take action.


Governor Abbott’s administration has launched a formal complaint portal through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s new Office of the Ombudsman, creating a direct avenue for students, faculty, and staff at Texas public universities to file official statutory complaints regarding violations of state higher education law.


That means universities have a new problem.


Because when Accuracy in Media exposes them ignoring the law, students, faculty, and staff now have a direct way to make official complaints instead of just watching administrators spin their way out of it.


These institutions have gotten very comfortable with performative compliance.
